Weekend recap

How embarrassing that it's Tuesday night and I'm just now writing a weekend recap . . . I swear I've been stuck in some kind of time warp the past couple days.  Without further ado:

1.  I got my hair highlighted--I'm blondish!--and aside from my utter lack of a tan, I am ready for summer!  Bring it on, Mother Nature!

2.  I read Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult, and cried my way through most of the second half.  This book is haunting me, and if anybody can give me the title of a super feel-good, the-world-is-a-decent-place book, I'd be very appreciative.  (And maybe it's just me, but my high school years would have been more impacted by reading Nineteen Minutes than As I Lay Dying by W. Faulkner.)

3.  I replotted the ending to Hush's sequel and hammered out about 15 surprisingly useable pages (nothing I produce on the weekend ever holds much merit).

4.  I got a gift card to Banana Republic in the mail - cha ching!

5.  I went for a five-mile run.  Basically, it was painful.  I've only just begun training for this summer's big triathlon, and I'm already devising ways to get around it.

D-O-N-E spells . . .

First, an apology.  I've been a bit slack about reading and replying on lj - I've been a bit slack on the internet front as a whole!  The last two weeks have seriously been the most work-intensive of my life.  That's what a revision letter does, apparently!  I haven't quite tied the knot on revisions - I'll take the next week or so to carefully comb through the manuscript one last time, polishing and hopefully catching any new mistakes I've made.  But after that?  Off to my editor!

While I'm on the topic of my editor, I'm definitely sending her a thank-you note.  She gave fantastic suggestions that have taken the book to a whole new level.  Back in September, when my agent subbed the manuscript, there were a few parts I honestly knew were terrible, but I didn't know how to fix them.  So, yanno, I shut my eyes and pretended they weren't there.  (I can't seeeee you!)

Those parts are (happily!) gone, thanks to my editor's keen suggestions.  How did she get so smart?  How did she get so awesome?  Something to ask, next time we chat.

So, yeah.  It's official.  I survived my first round of revisions!

Up next?  Get my author website up and running.  Oh, and start training for two sprint triathlons.  Yup, I'm doing two this summer . . .

So. I survived the triathlon. It was intense. Times ten. My sister took pics, and I'll post them soon. Let me just say it was very interesting trying to fit my unmanageable tresses underneath a Speedo swim cap.

Before the triathlon, we spent a few days in Park City, Utah. I love Utah. I'm trying to convince my husband we need to go back over Christmas. Can you saying skiing?

Sweet Sixteen

Quick writing update:

Sixteen scenes left to go!  Sweet!

I'm hoping to have the story written (meaning I'm hoping to swap all those pink cards for green ones) before I go on vacation next week.  Remember the triathlon I've been "training" for all summer?  Yeah, it's next week.  Should be real interesting.  At this point, I've come to grips with reality and decided I'm probably not going to bring home the gold.  I'll settle for silver.  Or bronze.  Okay, who am I kidding?  I'm just praying I don't drown.

Onward!

Just got back from J's final volleyball game.  This season, his team was 1 for 11.  Hey, you win some, you lose some, right?

Buns of Fire

My backside is on fire.  Thank you, kickboxing.   The good news is, I'm going to kill the triathlon this summer.  Step aerobics on Monday.  Swimming on Tuesday.  Spinning on Wednesday and Friday.  Kickboxing on Thursday.   Long run on Saturday.  Rest on Sunday.  Yeah, I'm taking it seriously.  (You would too if you had to run in a swimsuit in front of hundreds of people.)  Long live buns of fire.

I got an email this morning from an agent - she wants the full.  That puts me at eight fulls, zero partials and a handful of queries left floating out there.

I'm going to see 21 this weekend.  Can't wait.  The book was awesome.  I saw a preview for the movie and the lead character (Kevin) doesn't look at all Asian, though.  He's white.  Which kind of threw me, because the book specifically says the MIT club didn't want white guys - they don't fit the high-rollers stereotype.   Typical Hollywood :P

Have a great weekend, everyone!
