Hush

Busy times

Hey, guys!

So this post isn't going to have a clear focus. That was your warning.

First off, I finished HEX HALL by Rachel Hawkins a couple days ago and it was amazing!! Easily one of the best books I've read this year. It was funny and sexy, and I'm in love with bad boy Archer Cross. Sigh. Rachel and I have already talked about the conversations Patch and Archer could have on Twitter... Anyway, I promise to post a more in-depth review closer to the pub date (March 2010).

Next, I got an email today from my editor's assistant. Check this out:

"I have some very exciting news. Finished books are in the warehouse this week!"

EEEEEK! I'm so excited! I can't believe finished copies of HUSH, HUSH are coming any day now!

Speaking of HUSH, HUSH news...the book has a fansite! Rebecca and Jenn, two sisters who read the ARC, loved the story enough that they wanted to start a fansite. I'm so amazed and impressed and flattered. Thank you, Jenn and Rebecca! Everyone is welcome to join, and since there is a forum, I'm planning on dropping by as often as I can to talk about the book and answer questions. But enough from me. Here's the site: www.fallenarchangel.com (love that name, btw). I've been watching the Patch and Nora thread with interest, because people are posting pictures of actors they envision playing the characters, and there are some goooood ones. Yum. But I digress...

(Random but true fact: I just got up from the computer to cut myself an apple, and totally sliced my finger.)

So...Blogfest! I mentioned it in my last post, but now I have a nifty counter. I really hope to see you guys over there! I'll be checking the comments section and actively participating, so if you have a question or just want to say "hi!" don't hesitate to chime in. And, as always, feel free to steal the counter if you want to add it to your own blog :)

Okay! I think that's everything!

Back to revising CRESCENDO...

Friday Five

5.  I'm tearing apart Crescendo and editing my soul away.  Off the record, I suppose it's a little bit fun, but don't quote me on that.  For the love of Jove, never quote me on that!

4.  What am I reading, you ask?  HEX HALL by Rachel Hawkins, and I'm putting aside everything else this weekend to finish it.  My sides hurt from how hard I've been laughing.  HEX HALL won't be released until March 2010, and it's going to be a long wait.  I want the hardcover NOW!  (Rachel, can you hear me down in Alabama?)

3.  Simon & Schuster's BLOGFEST 2009 is coming up super soon.  I'll be there.  Stephanie Burgis will be there.  Lots of other authors will be there.  Will you?

2.  It's been a while since I talked about shoes.  I think I mentioned last month that I bought a pair of hot orange heels for my trip to Toronto, which was rescheduled due to passport issues, in particular birth certificate issues with my name typed incorrectly.  Got to love that.  But after a month of getting everything worked out, the typo will be fixed and my birth certificate will once again bear my one and true name.  It's a good feeling.  Anyway, my trip to Toronto is going forward, which means I get to wear the orange heels!  I don't want to jinx anything with a picture, but trust me, when I get to Toronto, I'll make sure to get a pic of me wearing them.

1.5  I have a blurb!  And even though I'd seriously be content with that, it's a blurb from one of my all-time favorite authors!   Let me calm down long enough to type it...hang on...almost there...okay, here we go:

"Hush, Hush has great atmosphere, and had me wondering where in the world -- or out of the world --
this story could go. If the guys had been this dangerous and delicious when I was in high school, I would
never have wanted to graduate! I see more fallen angel stories coming from this talented writer."
-- Sandra Brown, bestselling author of White Hot and Smoke Screen

1.  My publisher is giving away 300 limited edition posters to celebrate the release of HUSH, HUSH.  US only.  To enter
the sweepstakes, head on over to S&S.com.

Um, I still have one more thing.  Hopefully I'm allowed to squeeze in another.

0.5.  I started the First Look Book Club over at B&N.com this week, and all I can say is what an experience!  Special thanks to
the book club members a.k.a. readers, and to B&N for the opportunity!

Just, you know, revising

Hi, guys

Since I'm revising Crescendo, and have revisions on the mind, I had to share the Six Stages of Revision Hell with you, compliments of Kimberly Derting.  I laughed, then cried...then felt a crack of hope.  This, too, shall pass!  Go check Kim's Six Stages out HERE.

Speaking of revisions, this is what my kitchen table is going to look like for the unforeseeable future:  Hershey's Kisses wrappers, a cup of yogurt, Crescendo picked apart on little index cards...

Two things on Thursday

Hey, everyone!

Two quick things:

1.  I've posted my Five at Living Your Five.  Stop by to see how I'm planning to make a difference in the world...starting today.  I'm giving away a signed copy of HUSH, HUSH (hardback, not ARC) so be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win!

2.  Revision notes are in on CRESCENDO.  I spoke with my editor last night about the book, and I'm going to be just a little bit busy over the next several weeks, so I'm probably not going to be around as much.  I'm still here, not dead, just working :).  Wish me luck!

Hush

It's a gloomy day

here in Colorado, but my cute little garden seems to be enjoying the rain.

Check out those attractive wire fences.  The bunnies may have eaten all my flowers, but they will NOT get my veggies.  Ha!

Well, it has been a busy week here, as far as writing goes.  I'm finishing up CRESCENDO, but I feel reluctant to send it off, and I think that's partly because I know what the future holds.  Lots and lots and lots of editing.  Am I ready to do it all over again?  Hmm . . .   ;)

Also, I found out bound galleys of HUSH, HUSH were available at BEA!  How exciting is that?  I'm still trying to accept that in a little over four months, by book is going to make its debut.  My friends and I are already planning the big launch party, and we're thinking about hiring a hot shirtless guy to stand at the door and greet people.  If we can get him to wear wings, even better.  (I can hear my husband rolling his eyes from the next room.)

One last thing before I let you go.  If you'd like a chance to win a FREE signed advance reading copy of HUSH, HUSH, register for the Becca Fitzpatrick newsletter at my website now through June 15th.  Thanks to everyone who has entered so far, and GOOD LUCK!

"What is she doing?"

Mrs. Austen: JANE!
Lady Gresham: What is she doing?
Mr. Wisley: Writing
Lady Gresham: Can anything be done about it?

--Becoming Jane

A writing breakthrough, at last!  No, seriously.  The past couple of days, I've sat and stared at my computer screen . . . until drool in the corner of my mouth alerts me to the fact that I've fallen asleep.  I'm writing the ending to CRESCENDO (yes, again), and whoever said endings are hard was dead on.  Plot threads need to be tied up, questions need to be answered, readers need to be satisfied . . . no pressure or anything!  ;)   But I think I've finally found a way to pull it all together that makes me happy.  The location of the climax is seriously cool . . . in a horrific, dangerous, thrilling way.

Also, I've seen the UK cover for HUSH, HUSH.  It's very, very similar to the US cover, but there's an awesome tagline: Fallen for the fallen.  I love it!  I'm so happy with what they've done, and I'm glad the covers are (basically) the same.  (At this point, I'm not sure I could part with Angel Guy.)

Finally, I got an awesome surprise today.  For those of you who're new to the world of teen book blogging, each Wednesday several of the teen reviewers post the title of a book they're looking forward to reading.  The posts are typically titled: Waiting on Wednesday.  Well guess what?  HUSH, HUSH was featured on a few different Waiting on Wednesday posts today!  AHH!  It was seriously the coolest thing to see . . . and I had a small freak-out moment, hoping the book doesn't disappoint.  If you're interested in checking it out, here are the blogs:

Thing 1, Thing 2 and Thing 3

Hi, all!

So I have book club in, like, fifteen minutes.  Let's see if I can type this post in record time.

1.  First of all, FELICITY arrived!  Which was a fun surprise since it wasn't supposed to come until the 23rd (it's not the 23rd yet, is it?!?)  I'm supposed to work on CRESCENDO tonight, but I have a feeling I'm going to watch the pilot instead.

2.  Yes, you heard right.  HUSH, HUSH's sequel has a title!  It's tentative, but there's a tiny chance I might get to keep it.  CRESCENDO.  I love the atmosphere in the word.  As HUSH, HUSH's title denotes, it's all about secrets and lies, but secrets never keep.  CRESCENDO turns up the heat . . . and those secrets spill.  I absolutely can NOT wait to send CRESCENDO to my agent and editor and get their reactions.

3.  I was going to keep this as my own little secret, but hello, who am I kidding?  I am the worst secret-keeper ever.  So let me be the first to tell you that today I got to see preliminary ideas for HUSH, HUSH's cover.  (And now I understand why a trampoline was involved!)  I can't share anything yet, but I thought maybe you guys would like to see my own recreated sketch of the cover RIGHT NOW:

Hang on.  That's not a cover sketch.  That's ME when I saw the cover sketch!  And would you look at that.  I'm even wearing the sexy cheetah pumps from J.Crew that I've wanted forever.  Anyway, I have a feeling it might be a while before I get to post anything publicly, but rest assured it will be worth the wait.  (I'm allowed to say that because it's my book.)  (It's not arrogance, it's confidence.)  (Okay, maybe it's arrogance but I'm allowed to be arrogant about someone else's artistic abilities, right?)

Whew.  Look at that.  I'm going to be on time to book club!
