Time to Get to Work

I had an encouraging chat with my agent today.  I'm not sure this is what she gained from our conversation, but I can say it's true for me.  It's time to stop putzing around and go to work.  I've got an outline of my sequel hammered out, and there's no reason to delay writing.

Well, except for FEAR.

It's been eighteen months since I started a story from scratch.  But as the wise [info]patesden reminded me, I'm not the same writer I was back then.  I've got an arsenal of skills and tools I learned through the journey of writing my last novel, and I get to put them to use now.  I'm not promising the journey will be any easier this time, but it will be nice not to feel like I'm walking around naked and blindfolded.

I have some exciting news, but can't share yet.  I will say that today was the first day everything started to feel real.  I am going to work with an amazing, talented and oh-so-wise editor.  I am going to create the best book I'm capeable of.  I am going to be published.  My book will hit shelves.  If I'm lucky, I'll connect with readers.

I have arrived.  Time to get to work.

Sounds like a good day :) Can't wait to hear to good news too!
Yes, a good day except for trying to overcome this unreasonable fear. See? I should be typing now, but instead I'm browsing the internet . . .
Sounds great! Can't wait to hear the good news!! Good luck with the sequel writing!
Thank you! Under Pressure is my new theme song :)
Oooh! I love exciting news teasers - almost as much as actual news! :D Maybe this new project will be ~easier~ with your vast store of skills & tools. ;) I've been thinking about starting something new soon too. But so far it's just some ideas rattling around. Maybe I'll try outlining for the first time...
You know, it wasn't until I learned to outline that my writing really started to take off. I know everyone has their own way of doing things (and that's a good thing!) but I am definitely an outliner now.

I read a funny quote today: "It's likely the original spelling of the word 'plotting' was 'plodding.'"

:)
"It's likely the original spelling of the word 'plotting' was 'plodding.'"

Ah ha ha ha! I'm hanging that on my wall!
Dude, I was so there.
AM so there.
And that's exactly it. No more putzing. Work.
But what a job, eh?
Eh. For sure :)
to me, this seems like the best kind of fear to have. :)

excited to hear your good news!
I suppose there probably is positive fear . . . just like there's positive stress . . . and I promise I'm trying to cope. I took a stress management class in college (don't ask) and now I wish I'd paid more attention! :)
Even though this is frightening, I'm sure it's also exhilirating. Good luck, Becca!

Thank you, Catherine! What a great userpic . . . is that you? Cute!
That's me on my whirlwind tour of Russia in 2006 in front of a tank called Katusha, which is a Russian nickname for Catherine.

My friend Olga insisted we take a picture.

To go from plodding to plotting did you follow Holly Lisle's outline suggests or did you discover something ealse that worked better? Her ideas helped me a great deal.

I suspect some of your putzing was actually dreaming up stuff:)
I did a mix of Holly and my own stuff. I even bought a big cork board to pin up all my scenes :)
Congrats. Very encouraging post! And you deserve this. :)
Thank you :) Not sure about the deserving part . . . but I'm grateful you think so!
I would really be freaking out about the sequel. So much pressure. Gosh! Way too much for someone to handle. Man! No way, Jose. I'm shaking just thinking about it.

Oh. But I'm sure YOU'LL do find with it. ;-)

Now go get some writing done already, would you?
Oh, yeah, I'm sure I'LL be so different, haha! I did get six pages typed, though, so YAY for small successes!

Love the new eyeball. It's all mysterious . . . and kind of freaky in an I'm-peeping-through-a-secret-hole-in-the-wall way :)
Great post. :)

You can do it, Bec. I believe in you. You're going to write an even better book than HH!! You really HAVE arrived.
I know YOU have faith in me, so thank you for that! I'm crossing fingers for both of us :)
Yeah, hitting the shelves is step one. Connecting with readers, step two. And the most $important one, since you once told me you were in it for the money. Yep, you said that at group. lol. Good luck with it, hon!
